 RTD Role in project

    Development: robot, nanotesting system, demonstrators
    Robot user (nanotesting)

EMPA employs about 800 Scientists and techniciens mainly in the field of sustainable Materials Technology. The Materials Characterization Group at EMPA Thun is a national competence centre for micromechanical and tribological surface characterisation that provides a wide range of related testing facilities for quality control and research as well as complementary techniques like topography measurements, chemical analysis, metallography etc. EMPA Thun has a large experience and well established service for in in-situ (SEM) mechanical characterisation of composite materials, coatings, powders, and electronic devices. In the materials characterisation group at Thun 15 people are working on metallographic, chemical, tribological, mechanical and topographic characterisation of materials. Three scientists are working on nanomechanical testing methods (nanoindentation, in-site SEM-testing etc.). Besides the infrastructure and staff support from the section Materials Technology in Thun, the project partners may benefit from further resources available from the different sections at EMPA in Dübendorf, in particular: Surface and Joining Technology and Electronics/Metrology.
