The Control Engineering Laboratory of Helsinki University of Technology has established a national and international reputation in a wide field of control engineering and control theory. The
laboratory performs an active research program in the areas of control theory, microsystems, mechatronics, and process control . The research program has the support of the Academy of Finland (basic research),
Technology Development Centre (applied and industrial research), EU and maintains extensive research links to Europe, North America and Asia.
Recent research projects in the area of microsystems include: Development of microfluidics systems, Virtual environment for operating in the microworld, Paper fiber handling with microsystem methods,
Advanced microsystems – Co-operation with Nagoya University, and hemical microplant – System modelling and development. Micromanipulators have been central in most of the projects. Half of the projects have had
strong industrial participation and also several other research institutes. The laboratory has a staff of 25-30 people.
