MEDPLANT GENETICS is born in Bilbao, April 2000, as an pioneer company within the European biotechnological scope. The continuos and raising development of new biotechnological tools in the sector has
made possible that promoters rely on this initiative, thus generating new market opportunities. MEDPLANT GENETICS has developed tools for globally analysing thousands of genes in one turn. Their objective is double;
first, to develop and manufacture new diagnosis techniques based on DNA technology; and second, to offer global solutions in Functional Genomics and Pharmacogenomics to the pharmacy and biotechnological industry and
academic institutions.
MEDPLANT GENETICS has established closed links to Strategic Investigation Centres and is currently carrying out co-operation projects with other companies. The aim is to gain a leading position in the
Biotechnological European market. Because it is such a competitive market, big effort is done both in innovation and acquisition of new resources, human and technological, in order to cope with clients’ demands.
Medplant Genetics strategy is focused on improving their current R&D lines, on incorporating new technologies which rounds off their offer and on establishing strategic links with companies from the sector.
Therefore, the company assumes the responsibility and leadership for being the reference in order to capitalise new market opportunities, development and investigation inside the Biotechnology area.
The objective of the company is to identify and validate genes which are involved in pathological processes and be able to apply them in new drugs development, prognosis system and precocious
diagnosis. In the new installations of January 2001, MEDPLANT GENETICS has a 300m2 laboratory, including samples processing and last generation Genomics laboratories, using normalised operating processes and Quality
assurance system under UNE-EN_ISO9002:1994 norm. The company foresees a clear enlargement and is already planning their future facilities for 2002, at the Parque Tecnológico de Zamudio for over 1000m2.
MEDPLANT GENETICS has the most complete technological platform so as to detect the genetics units codified in the genome, analyse their structure and determine their task. Its platform is also able to
simultaneously determine thousands of SNP (Single Nucleotide Polymorphism) and hence generate the genetic print from the individual analysed. The company has made a big effort in order to improve their human
resources by collecting the best specialists coming from the pharmaceutical industry and reputable biotechnological research centres.
